Sunday With Blackthorn - Today We Cover The Lamb Method Of Stickwork

Most of you guy have either seen the manual, or maybe Ralph doing a partial Demo of the The Lamb Method of Baton use. Originally developed by Artur Lamb Of the Boston PD. It was an effective method for defensive use that greatly reduced the incidence of lethal or permanent injuries. The method was eventually used in most major cities in the U.S. as well as in several foreign countries.

The videos below are being demonstrated by a guy named Dan Avila. Mr. Avila has a Facebook Page called 'Knuckle Up'. Originally it showed clips of him demo-ing various self defense techniques from WW2 and earlier Manuals. However his page, being initially Public, some FB trolls took offense at the material he presented, and accordingly Mr. Avila wound up in Facebook jail.

He eventually got tired of that and changed his focus to boxing related material, focusing mainly on boxing styles from the early 20th century period. Specifically the transitional period between Bareknuckle and the early introduction of gloved boxing, and with an emphasis on boxing as it can be applied to self defense.

Anyway, while the intros to his videos can be a little over the top, he does a pretty good job of demonstrating techniques and methods that he shows. This short series of videos, I feel, present a good overall picture of the The Lamb Method.

Paul Harrell On Tactics Part 3

Now last Sunday I put up the Paul Harrell 'Tactics' Videos Parts 1 & 2. Those covered Shooting from Cover and Shooting and Moving. To say I was surprised by the lack of response by you guys in terms of views would be an understatement. Maybe you were all just busy, had other engagements that day, who knows. But in spite of the lackluster response, I'm putting up the 3rd and final Tactics video.

Maybe this one will even catch and hold your attention long enough for some of you to watch it all the way through as well as motivate you to go back and look at the first 2 parts.

Not Quite A Review Of The Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot Sight

When the the Red Dot Holographic sights first came out, I was not a fan. What If you bang it, what if the battery dies, I shoot just fine with the iron sights (whether factory or aftermarket) etc. Well, that was over 15 years ago and with age comes not just wisdom, but aging eyesight.

I finally broke down about 7 or 8 years ago and decided to try one out. I wasn't going to spend hundreds on one of the top tier 'tactical operator' type sights. Hey, you all know I'm cheap that way. I decided that I would find one and put it on my Ruger 10/22 just to see what it would be like. After doing some searches for reviews online, and weighing cost vs how much use I would get from it, I decided on the Bushnell TRS-25. I've had it now about 7 years and I have to say, I have no complaints, it has definitely made putting the rounds where I want them a lot easier,and I've only had to replace the battery once.

Now I know this is not much of a scientific review, but I honestly have nothing negative to say about the TRS-25. I've gone to ranges where I was able to rent various other long-guns and they had the TRS-25 mounted on them. I will note that the ones I rented were all Pistol Caliber Carbines.

Which brings me to my only caveat. I don't know how well TRS-25 would hold up being mounted on a rifle or carbine that fired full sized rifle/carbine cartridges.

So, having said that, if you have either a .22lr carbine or rifle that you use for target practice, or a Pistol Caliber Carbine for defensive purposes, especially in an urban environment, you should give the TRS-25 a look.

And that's my 2cents worth on the TRS-25.

Due to some unforeseeable personal issues I wasn't able to do anything with Sunday With Blackthorn last week. However I'm back now, and we'll get right back to business.
