NYC D.A. Alvin Bragg (Not That He'd Admit It) Caves To Pressure To Drop Murder Charges Against Jose Alba

I'm guessing that the fact that pretty much every Bodega Owner/Operator/Cashier in NYC is a minority person of Latin/Hispanic ethnicity might have had something to do with it. I also think the current successful recall of  D.A. Chesa Boudin in San Francisco and the advancing recall effort against D.A. George Gascon in Los Angeles might also have prompted NYC D.A. Bragg to drop the murder Charge against Jose Alba.

Who Knows, maybe he'll even consider indicting the girlfriend of the now deceased predicate Felon who attacked Alba, for stabbing Alba in the arm during the fatal confrontation.

Nah....   I don't think so.

The Mass Shooting That Nobody In The Mainstream Media Will Talk About

On July 17th a mass shooting was cut short after 3 people were shot dead and 2 more wounded by a gunman who opened fire in an Indiana shopping mall.

It is now July 20th and where is all the hoopla and hand-wringing from the media about the evils of gun ownership? Where are the calls cor "common sense gun control" and the banning and confiscation of all guns in America?

Instead, all the general public gets is the sound of crickets.

Why you ask?

Because the gunman's spree was cut short by a 22 year old legally armed citizen who was carrying concealed.

Which doesn't fit the left wing narrative, now does it?

Can't have people being able to defend themselves now can we?

Sunday With Blackthorn - Today We Discuss Another Idiot Who Feels The Need To Tell People That Shotguns Are Not Good For Home Defense

It's amazing to me how many people have this uncontrollable urge to spout their personal opinions as immutable facts of life. Especially where it concerns what firearms people want to use for defense. If you're out and about obviously long guns are not likely to be your first choice if you live in any sort of an Urban or Suburban area.

Nobody wants to go to Home Depot, the Bagel store or the local Pharmacy with a rifle or shotgun over their shoulders. While there are places where you can legally do that, they really don't constitute the norm.

If you live in an area whee your nearest neighbor  is to be found "down the road a piece",  a rifle of the semi-auto, bolt, or lever action type would also be a reasonable choice.

But if your particular interest is for the heaviest artillery that you can get, especially if you live in area where semi-auto rifles and handguns are frowned upon, the shotgun is always a reliable choice.

Buckshot, slugs, semi-auto, pump, double barrel, (even short barrels & pistols grips or folding stocks if they're legal in your area) provide a wide range of options for a homeowner.

Now after having stated my case, I give you Mr. BillyGoat beard rehashing all the tired, worn out tropes about the downsides of the Shotgun. Now make sure that after you watch the video, that you read through the comments.

They are far more descriptive and colorful than the yada-yada crap coming from the dude who made the video.

And, as always, don't forget to click on the video and watch it full size on Youtube.

Sunday With Blackthorn - Today We Discuss UFC 'No Holds Barred' Rules vs Early 19th Century 'No Holds Barred' Rules

Look, I wouldn't want to get in a fight with a Pro MMA Fighter. However, I'm tired of hearing about how MMA is the way to train for an actual violent criminal attack in the street.

First up, what a "fight" was like on the early 19th Century frontier under a No Holds Barred competitive fight. The description is pretty brief. An excerpt from Mark Hatmakers Blog.

A Bad Day in Georgia

The following excerpt is from Whitman Mead’s Travels in North America [1820.] The author refers to an incident he witnessed in 1817 while travelling though Georgia.

Such gatherings, according to Mead, occurred 2-3 times per week where folks would gather to fellowship, feast, drink, dance, gamble, exchange wares, and often following the ever-present horse-race a public challenge may be issued.

At which time:

“A ring is formed, free for anyone to enter and fight…After a few rounds, they generally clinch, throw down, bite and gouge, and the conquered creeps out under the ring as a signal of his submission.”

Mead tells of meeting several past combatants who had noses bitten off, eyes gouged out, and more than a few who had been castrated in such affairs. Many of these now unsavory tactics were not mere desperation moves in the heat-of-battle but sought for targets-of-acquisition with their own strategy and methods.

And now, a list of the all the Banned/Illegal Moves/Techniques in the UFC

1. Headbutting

2. Eye-gouging

3. Biting

4. Hair pulling

5. Fish-hooking

6. Groin attacks

7. Small joint manipulation

8. Rabbit punches

9. Downward Vertical elbows

10. Piledriving or Spiking an opponents head

11. Kicks/knees/stomps to the head of a grounded opponent

12. Shorts/gloves and fence holding

13. Throat strikes of any kind

14. Clawing, pinching, or twisting the flesh

15. Grabbing the clavicle

16. Kicking to the kidney with the heel

17. Throwing an opponent out of the rings or fenced area

18. Spitting at an opponent or the referee

19. Engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct that causes an injury to an opponent

20. Using abusive language

21. Avoiding contact with an opponent, dropping the mouthpiece, or faking an injury

22. Applying any substance that could result in an unfair advantage

23. Striking the part of the body just above the kidneys

This concludes our brief lesson in the differences between a modern day no rules fight, and what was considered  'de rigeur' on the Early American Frontier.

Sunday With Blackthorn - Today We Discuss Pocket Pistols vs Snubnoses

With the Current SCOTUS decision  on Concealed Carry, there are going to be a lot of people looking to avail themselves of their new right. At least in those states that had previously banned or restricted concealed carry outside the home or gun range. A lot of those people are going to be those with  no previous gun ownership experience and will probably make one of two  mistakes.

The first being that of buying the biggest handgun they can find. This will most likely result in unusual and unsightly bulges in their clothing (not to mention their pants sagging like a recently released inmate from the local correctional facility). Secondly, they will buy the smallest, most concealable sidearm they can find.

This video today from Lucky Gunner Ammo concerns the latter group. While it does primarily concern whether you should get a Snub or a Pocket Pistol based on conceal-ability, and ease of carry and access, it does also discuss ammo capacity, reloading, and some issues of caliber selection.

Enjoy the read.
