The late John McSweeney (1928 to 2002) was a pioneer in Combatives before it was being called Combatives. His main art was Kenpo Karate but he concentrated on foundational strikes, added a large dose of aggression, and in the 1990's he put out 2 videos. One on Unarmed Self Defense, and the other on Armed Self Defense. The two videos were later combined into one and titled 'Total Self Defense".
It went from VHS to DVD but is somewhat difficult to find, except for renting it at Amazon. In any event, I was able to locate the Armed Self Defense video while doing some random web-surfing. It cover Handguns, specifically Point Shooting , Knife, and the use of the Palm Stick (Yawara/kubotan, whatever you want to call it.)
The 1990's style production values are what they are, but once you get past that, you will see simple, straightforward techniques that were designed for regular people in the real world, and not for armchair commandos, mall ninjas, and other wannabe "tacticool" operators.
