Kurt Russell on Gun Control & The No-Fly List
I've always liked Kurt Russell. Another one of the few actors in Hollywood who aren't hypocrites that go around making a fortune of of blood and guts action movies and then talk shit about gun-control in their spare time. The following link goes to an interview he gave when the reporter started talking about the current efforts by the administration to automatically put people on the no-fly list on a no=buy list for guns. No proof or due process required on the part of the same bureaucrats to prove anything, and if it there's a mistake you have to get a lawyer to find out if you're even on the list, and finally spend a fortune and go through hoops to be removed after you've proven you don't belong on the list.
I'm guessing this reporter wasn't expecting the response he got.

Gun News That Didn't Make The News
First, the Bad;
The Supreme Court Declined to take up a case that would have challenged an assault weapons ban in Illinois.
http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/12/foghorn/breaking-supreme-court-declines-to-hear-assault-weapons-case-allows-law-to-stand/
As I mentioned at another forum I belong to, declining a case is not a loss. It is a setback but also allows for a future case from another jurisdiction with better merits to be made at a later date.
Now the Good;
https://www.nraila.org/articles/20151203/senate-holds-the-line-on-second-amendment-rights
As usual the anti-gun democrats attempted to use the latest terror attack in San Bernardino as an excuse to add a number of gun control measures to an economic bill.
It didn't work.
You win some, you lose some. The anti-gun right crowd started hammering away in earnest back in 1968 after Bobby Kennedy was killed. They lost a bunch but they didn't quit and eventually succeeded in getting some pretty onerous legislation passed at the local, state and federal levels all across the country. If you're a gun owner in this country and you want to roll back any of these laws and enact more protections for your rights it's real simple.
Just do what the anti-gun rights crowd did and keep at it. There have been more legal successes for gun-rights in the last 7 or 8 years then there have been losses. Vote, organize, donate and don't quit.
It really is that simple.

Real Geopolitical Destabilization
Bombs?, Cyberwarfare?, Acts of Terror?
The old axiom always holds true. Follow the money (whether it goes up or down). Apparently the emergence of new technology that allows for the extraction of Shale Oil and Natural Gas is having a far wider effect than just lower prices at the pump, heating your home or reducing production costs at manufacturing plants.

Oil Plunge Raises Fears of Societal Unrest
By Elizabeth MacDonald Published November 30, 2015FOXBusiness
With Wall Street shops like Goldman Sachs (GS) and government officials in Venezuela signaling oil could go to the mid-$20 per barrel range next year, analysts at places like RBC Capital Markets have been warning that chronically low oil prices plunging towards seven-year lows means increasing social chaos in countries on the edge—including those battling ISIS.
Five countries are high on the radar screen for societal risks from low oil prices, which RBC Capital Markets has labeled the “Fragile Five.” They are Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, and Venezuela. ISIS operatives are believed to be in most of these countries.
The wealthier Gulf State governments can adapt to low oil prices by borrowing in the bond market or raising taxes and cutting government spending, though the latter risks more social unrest. Already, the United Arab Emirates pulled fuel subsidies and is mulling corporate and sales taxes. Still, OPEC member countries have seen their group’s revenues drop by nearly $500 billion in the past year, as oil has plunged more than 40%.
Plummeting oil prices are slamming poorer countries, who are dealing with terrorism as well. Already, 1.6 million have been internally displaced in South Sudan, with another 600,000 refugees in neighboring countries on the move. South Sudan has been battling a civil war for more than a year and a half in the oil-rich southern part of the country, an area that’s bigger than Syria. In 2011, the year of its independence, South Sudan was pumping out almost 350,000 barrels of oil per day, but today can only produce 120,000 to 150,000 barrels a day.
Iraq, battling ISIS terrorists daily, has moved to borrow $6 billion in new bond debt, something it hasn’t done in nearly a decade. The bond issuance comes as Iraq’s oil output hit a record high in July at 4.18 million barrels per day, up sharply from an average of 3.42 million barrels per day in the first quarter of this year, notes OilPrice.com.
Iraq’s bond offering, led by co-managers Citigroup (C), JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and, Deutsche Bank (DB), is Baghdad’s first since 2006. The country is still reeling under a sizable budget deficit yawning wider after the plunge in oil prices and military costs from fighting ISIS in the northern and western parts of the country. Similarly, Saudi Arabia, which has its own Islamist militants fomenting domestic jihadi trouble, borrowed more than $9 billion since the summer, re-entering the bond markets for the first time in eight years as it faces a fiscal deficit equal to about 20% of GDP.
“The instability created by the conflict has caused havoc to economic growth and oil production in the northern and western parts of the country [Iraq], and strained the fiscal situation due to the need for military spending at a time when cutbacks are required,” Jakob Christensen, analyst at Exotix, has said.
Ripped apart by civil unrest and ISIS, Libya, too, is hurting from low oil prices. The most important sector of its economy is down to putting out less than 400,000 barrels of oil a day, a fraction of the 1.6 million it was producing when Muammar Gaddafi was in power.
On the brink of insolvency, Venezuela is also reeling from low oil prices and societal unrest, as the country is asking OPEC to get oil prices back up to the $88 per barrel range at the group’s meeting in Vienna on December 4. Credit default swaps to insure Venezuelan government bonds shot to their highest level in 12 years, a red flag indicating junk status or default.

The Obama Administration Want s To 'Nudge' You In The Proper Direction
Some people question the efficacy of Behavioral Sciences, but apparently the Current Administration thinks it's worth a try. The following linked article is about a quiet, inexpensive little program that administration has been trying out for the past couple of years.
It's a principle called 'nudging' and it's basically a sneaky little way getting people here the USA to change their habits. Based on the results mentioned in the article it seems to work pretty well. Unless you attempt to use it on intelligent, educated people such as doctors.
Anyway, read it and judge for yourself.

Documentary "Wolves At Westgate" The Westgate Mall Attack 2013
Caught this on TV about a week or so ago. The amount of footage available from the mall security cameras was astounding. This documentary is absolutely chilling. Highly recommended, but not for the squeamish.

The "Brady Bunch" Get Fucked
And I wonder how/why the mainstream media missed it????
If this court decision had gone the other way, every anti-gun rights "news" outlet in America would have been plastering it as their lead story.
But it didn't, so they ignored it. This now sets a precedent for anti gun rights organizations that have been trying to bleed the firearms and firearms related businesses with bullshit lawsuits for the past decade or more.
Go to court and loose, and they could wind up being the ones to "die the death of a thousand cuts"

Interesting Article About Recent CCW Owners
A lot of my friends didn't believe me years ago when I told them that women gun buyers would be the salvation (for lack of a better word) of gun ownership. I may have overstated that a bit, but this article along with others I've seen the last few years, seems to give more than a little validation to my thoughts on the matter.
OTOH the rise in legal gun ownership by minorities wasn't on my radar at all.

More Good News For NY State Residents
There's an old saying. "Nobody's right to life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness is safe as long as the Legislature is in session". Originally intended to describe the Federal government, it really has meaning if you live in NY state. Fortunately residents can rest easy for a while now that these hooples and crooks have gone home (for a few months at least).
The only high points of note this year were the arrests and indictments of both the Democratic leader of the State Assembly (Shelly Silver) and the Republican leader of the State Senate (Dean Skelos).
Good riddance.

Civil Disobedience Is No Longer The Property Of The Left
In a move reminiscent of Canada when they required the registration of all long guns, NY state residents have responded to Andrew Cuomo's SAFE Act in the same manner.
Non-compliance.
At this point only 4% of all the semi-auto carbines and rifles estimated to be in the hands of gun owners in the state have been registered. At this time a court case is underway to repeal several sections of the SAFE act. How that plays out could take some time and the outcome, knowing the judicial system in NY state, is far from certain.
But as the saying goes, hope springs eternal.

The Effect of U.S. Shale On The Geopolitical Landscape
Well, Cuomo will never allow it in NY State, but even old "angry Eyes Cuomo" won't be Governor forever.
In any event, as the following article shows, shale oil is rewriting the immediate future of energy production not just in the U.S.A, but in the world.

Mexico Has Everything Under Control
Things have heated up again south of the border. The Mexican federal police lost 15 men killed a while back to a new up and coming drug cartel. Accordingly the Federales decided to get some payback. A pitched gun battle took place at a remote ranch that left 42 cartel members dead.
Can't wait to see what the coming summer brings.

As I mentioned in my 5-20-15 posting, the latest Gun Rights decision by a Federal court regarding the Districts concealed carry regulations has the potential to effect numerous jurisdictions with restrictive carry permit rules.
The follow-up by D.C. as regards an appeal to the decision is definitely one to watch .

Court Ruling On Concealed Carry
Despite the Heller ruling, D.C. continues to try and make things difficult for gun ownership. Fortunately they're not very good at it as shown in this latest federal court ruling. This decision could have very wide ranging implications if it makes it to the Supreme Court and the lower Court Judges ruling is upheld. This could potentially force cities and/or states everywhere into becoming 'Shall Issue' jurisdictions if they currently have requirements for you to "prove a need" to own/carry a handgun.
